لا يختلف اثنان على ان مجموع زوايا البوصلة تساوي 360 درجة، لكنك ستكتشف هنا ان الرقم 9 هو الرقم السحري في كل الزوايا والدرجات، فإذا جمعت الأرقام الفردية لدرجات البوصلة، ستجد ان الناتج هو الرقم 9.
360 = 3 + 6 + 0 = 9
وإذا قسمت البوصلة إلى النصف، فستحصل على 180 درجة، وهي تساوي :
1 + 8 + 0 = 9
وإذا أخذت نصف 180 درجة فستحصل على 90 درجة، وتساوي:
9 + 0 = 9
ونصف 90 درجة يساوي 45، لكنك إذا جمعت 4 + 5 فستحصل على الرقم 9 مرة أخرى. حتى في المنازل العشرية ستظل الزاوية مضافة إلى 9. .
خذ نصف 45 درجة وستحصل على 22.5 درجة، ثم اجمع الأرقام الفردية (2 + 2 + 5 = 9)، والنتيجة هي دائماً بالطبع الرقم السحري 9. .
وإذا قسمت البوصلة إلى 16 جزء، فستكون النتيجة 22.5 لكل جزء، الا ان وزنها يبقى 9، انظر:-
(2 + 2 + 5 = 9)،
اما التقسيم الملاحي إلى 32 جزء، اي إلى كارتات، أو خانات، فان كل خانة تساوي 11.25، لكن وزنها يبقى 9، انظر:-
(1 + 1 + 2 + 5 = 9)
وحتى لو قسمت البوصلة إلى 64 جزء، فان كل جزء يساوي 5.625، لكن وزنها يبقى 9، انظر:-
(5 + 6 + 2 + 5 = 18)
(1 + 8 = 9)
وبالتالي فأن الرقم 9 له علاقة سحرية بالبوصلة الملاحية، ويؤدي إلى ظهور بعض الخصائص المدهشة، تسمى قواعد التسعة (Rules of Nine)، فإذا قمت بجمع أرقام كل زاوية في البوصلة، ستجد ان مجموعها الوزني يساوي تسعة. .
