هذا هو عنوان الكتاب الذي أعده الباحث البريطاني مارتن جاك عام 2009. فكان من بين أهم منشوراته، وتُرجم حتى الآن إلى إحدى عشرة لغة، وبيعت منه ملايين النسخ حول العالم. وهو مترجم إلى العربية (ترجمة فاطمة نصر). .
يتناول الكتاب الحداثة الآسيوية وصعود الصين كقوة عالمية عظمى من دون ان تضطر لتتبع النموذج الغربي في الانتقال إلى الحداثة. قوة تتحدى الهيمنة الغربية وتتفوق عليها. .
يتوقع المؤلف ان الصين باعتبارها دولة حضارية ستحكم العالم في السنوات القادمة. ولن يكون تأثيرها اقتصادياً فحسب، بل سيكون ثقافياً أيضاً، مما سيؤدي إلى تنوع المستقبل العالمي في الحداثة المتنازع عليها. .
والسؤال الأهم الذي يطرحه المؤلف: هل ستحكم الصين العالم في ضوء ما تحققه من إنجازات مشهودة، وقدرات فائقة في حشد الموارد والأموال للاستثمار في التكنولوجيا العالمية بموازاة النمو المتسارع للموارد البشرية، حتى أصبحت تشكل تحدياً قوياً للغرب، وبخاصة للولايات المتحدة. لكنها لن تحل محلها ما لم تستطع تحقيق المزيد من الخطوات الإستراتيجية المؤثرة. .
