كشفت وثائق مسربة من وكالة مكافحة الجرائم المالية في وزارة الخزانة الأميركية نشرها الاتحاد الدولي للصحافة الاستقصائية على موقعه الإلكتروني عن عمليات مصرفية مشبوهة تتجاوز قيمتها نحو 2 تريليون دولار.
وتتكون ملفات وكالة مكافحة الجرائم المالية الأميركية من أكثر من 2500 وثيقة، معظمها كانت ملفات أرسلتها البنوك إلى السلطات الأميركية بين عامي 2000 و 2017 تثير مخاوف بشأن ما قد يفعله عملاؤها.
ونقلت البنوك أموالًا لأشخاص أو كيانات لم يتمكنوا من تحديد هويتهم ، وفي كثير من الحالات أخفقت في تقديم تقارير الأنشطة المشبوهة المطلوبة لسنوات بعد ذلك .
